The emergence of the Internet as a global sharing and collaborating network is enabling open source development to outperform proprietary software in both quality and cost savings. Open source development today forms an integral part of a CIO’s IT strategy.  The use of open source technologies has spread to a range of industries and applications ranging from enterprise infrastructure to product development to R&D efforts.

At Metabyte, we have always kept a keen eye on open source development. As an example, we started working with Linux in 1993 - within two years after its initial release. Metabyte developed device drivers and X-Windows based GUI systems for our clients who manufactured network controllers, disk arrays, and graphics chips.

Today, LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) is a popular environment at Metabyte, and our HotDoodle.com web services platform has been developed on it.
